All of our pages contain the address and GPS co-ordinates for the ports. In addition our port pages contain links to Google Map directions and written instructions.

Your best bet is to contact the ferry company directly and if possible to contact the port office of the ferry company involved. Contacting anybody else may waste valuable time.

BOOKING QUESTIONS: VEHICLE TYPES, GETTING CHEAP FARES & MORE

BOOKING QUESTIONS: QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

When you say 'passengers' does that include the driver of the car?

Yes, when you see the word passenger on the website, this means passengers on the ferry, not passengers in your car. So it doesn't matter if it's the driver or someone sitting at the back, you are all passengers on the ferry.

When is the cheapest time to travel?

Prices generally rise as space becomes less available so those who book in advance are usually rewarded with a cheaper fare. Crossings around school holidays and national holidays are popular and usually fill up early - so cheaper fares will be available if you avoid travelling at these times as well. Subscribe to our newsletter so that we can inform you when any special discounts become available too.

I don't see my vehicle type (e.g. van, camper etc.). What can I do?

This means one of two things: The ferry company does not accept bookings for that vehicle type, or, it may only be possible to book it over the phone. If in doubt, please contact us.

Can I book one vehicle on the way out and a different one on the return leg?

You may see this option when you make your booking or you may not. It all depends on the ferry company and the technology they use. If you don't see the option, please book two single tickets instead.

Can I travel with a different number of passengers in each direction?

You may see this option when you make your booking or you may not. It all depends on the ferry company and the technology they use. If you don't see the option, please book two single tickets instead.

Do you offer group discounts?

Unfortunately, this is something we cannot provide. Please contact the ferry company directly.

Help. I'll be renting a car. I don't know the details now. What do I do?

Please make sure that you are allowed to travel with a hire car on the ferry. Not all policies allow for this. When making your booking, please use ‘other’ as the vehicle type. Enter the dimensions you expect the vehicle to be and then enter vehicle registration as ‘unknown’.

Some ferry companies  may charge you on arrival at the port to update the vehicle registration stored for your booking or if they notice a particular size difference between what you booked and the car you are travelling with - however small differences normally go unnoticed.

I'm transporting goods. Am I okay to make a normal passenger booking?

If you are carrying commercial goods or if you are driving a commercial vehicle, then generally you should make a freight booking and not a passenger booking. However, there are grey areas and it may depend on the ferry company and so if you are not 100% sure, please contact the ferry company directly.

I'm travelling in a converted van. It's now a campervan/motorhome - what do I put when booking?

Check your vehicle registration details. If your vehicle is now legally classified as a campervan or motorhome, you can travel as a campervan or motorhome.

I’m pregnant, can I travel by ferry?

Yes but if you will be more than 28 weeks pregnant when you travel you may be required to produce a medical certificate for fitness to travel.

Do you offer discounts for residents?

Yes, we do. On some routes, you will be presented with the option of booking with a discount. Please make sure that you qualify for these discounts before you book as you may be asked for proof of your qualification when you travel.

Do you offer discounts for students or pensioners?

Yes, these kinds of discounts are available on some routes.

Can I book an open return?

Yes, open returns are available. If you don't see this option when making your booking, this means that for the route you are looking at open returns are not possible.

I don't see any sailing for the route or time and date I want. What's going on?

If you try to book a sailing and you don't see any results for the route or the company you want, this can mean two things.

If it's for several months in the future or the next calendar year
Then there is a possibility that the ferry company has not decided on their sailing schedule yet and so you can't book for the dates you want simply because the booking can't me made. In this case please sign up to our emails. We email our subscribers as soon as timetables are released.

If the booking is for a few weeks time or in the height of the summer
Then the most likely possibility is that all the places on the ferry are taken. Please look for an alternative route or sailing.

I want to pay with the currency from my own country. Why can't I?

Yes, these kinds of discounts are available on some routes.

How can I pay for my ferry tickets? Do you accept deposits? What about debit cards?

Unfortunately, we don't accept deposits. A full payment must be made at the time of booking. You can pay for you booking with a credit or debit card and even PayPal. We don't accept bank transfers as a payment method.

Help. I haven't received an email confirmation of my booking

Don't panic. Please first check the 'Junk' or 'Spam' folder of your email provider. If you don't see an email there, then please log in to My Account, and make sure that your email address is correct. Is your data always accurate?

We aim to always have accurate data and information on our website including ferry availability. However, like every website we can't guarantee that we'll always be 100% accurate. In addition, the ferry companies themselves sometimes provide the wrong information and there's nothing we can do about that.

Do you work with every single ferry company?

For ferries to and from Corsica we let you compare every company.

TRAVELLING WITH DOGS AND OTHER PETS

TRAVELLING WITH DOGS AND OTHER PETS: QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Can I take my guide dog or other pet when I travel?

Yes, you can travel with your pet. When you make your booking, you will see the option to include your pet. Please make sure that if you are travelling from country to country that your pet has the required papers. All dogs in public areas have to be on a leash. Some ferry companies may also require you to muzzle your dog. So, just in case, please have one available. Please also remember that you may be travelling with people from cultures where dogs and other pets are not so common and your fellow travellers may feel uncomfortable or scared.

Do I need to put my pet in a kennel?

This depends on the ferry company or the route. We will let you know the exact information after you make your booking. In addition, on some shorter crossings, your dog may have to stay in your car. This does not usually apply for guide dogs. However, you are advised to contact the ferry company directly if travelling with a guide dog at least 48 hours prior to departure.

Some ferry companies also provide pet cabins. If you book a pet cabin, your dog or other pet can stay with you in the cabin and does not need to stay in your car or in a kennel. These cabins are normally the same as others but have linoleum flooring and not carpeting.

I'm running ahead of schedule, can I take an earlier ferry?

The answer is normally no unless you specifically booked a flexible or open ticket. When you booked your ticket you may have had the opportunity to upgrade your ticket.

For other ticket types, this is at the discretion of the ferry operator. It may be possible to change tickets at the port for a fee but this is not something you should bank on.

For French nationals, your national identity card can be used.

ACCOMMODATION QUESTIONS: SEATS AND CABINS

ACCOMMODATION QUESTIONS: QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Do I have to book a cabin or seat?

This depends on your route and the time of travel. Normally night time travel requires the booking of accommodation - either a cabin or a reserved seat. If accommodation is compulsory you will see this when booking. If you don't book accommodation you will have access to the communal seating on the ship in deck areas. Please note however, that in the summer months, you may not be able to sit where you want and for this reason, wherever possible, we advise you to reserve seating or a cabin in advance.

If I book a cabin for one person but it has multiple berths, will I have to share?

What are berths? And do I select one cabin per person or one berth?

Berths simply means a bed or sleeping accommodation for one person. So a two berth cabin will normally contain two single beds or for larger cabins a double bed. So if you are a couple then you need a cabin with two berths.

Help. I left something on the ferry. Who can I contact about lost property?
